Madhup Mudgal & Sawani Mudgal

Madhup Mudgal is a distinguished vocalist and scholar of Hindustani classical music, trained initially by his father and later influenced by Pt. Kumar Gandharva. As the Principal of Gandharva Mahavidyalaya in New Delhi, he balances tradition with innovation, performing at notable festivals worldwide, including the Fez Festival in Morocco and Theatre de la Ville in Paris. He has contributed to the choral music scene as the conductor of the Gandharva Choir, and his acclaimed compositions for solo dancers and productions like ‘Punarnava’ and ‘Sankriti’ highlight his versatility. He has collaborated with international artists, such as jazz musicians in Brazil, and is celebrated for his renditions of poetry by saint-poets like Kabir and Meera. Additionally, he has served on various government committees, promoting the arts and culture.

Sawani Mudgal is a talented vocalist trained in Hindustani classical music under her father, Madhup Mudgal. A gold medalist from Khairagarh University, she has performed globally, including at significant festivals in Spain, the UK, and Bhutan, where her recent performance celebrated 50 years of Indo-Bhutanese friendship. She has collaborated on unique projects, such as ‘Flamenco-India’ with renowned filmmaker Carlos Saura, and conducts the Children’s Choir at Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, where she has taught for over a decade. She has lent her voice to various recordings and actively promotes Indian music and culture through SPICMACAY. A recipient of the Inkpot Achiever's Award in 2019, she specialises in devotional music, drawing from the works of saint-poets like Kabir and Tulsidas.
