About
Archana Sharma
Dr. Archana Sharma, a distinguished scientist at CERN and recipient of the prestigious Pravasi Bhartiya Samman Award from the Government of India and the Bharat Gaurav honor from the British Parliament, is celebrated for her groundbreaking contributions to physics, particularly in large-scale gaseous detectors and GEM technology at the CMS experiment. With over 1,200 publications and three popular science books—including "India's Science Geniuses" and "Nobel Dreams of India"—she champions scientific outreach and diversity in communication, notably at events by the ILO Geneva and World Communication Forum Davos and hundreds of events in India. Her recent endeavour, along with coauthors Anil Sharma and Rajesh K Singh, is a visually captivating coffee table book, written in English, Hindi, and Sanskrit, paying homage to Varanasi. This photographic tribute, enriched with descriptions and poetry, captures the essence of one of the world’s oldest, most sacred cities, which holds personal significance due to her time at Banaras Hindu University. Through her work and mentorship, Dr. Sharma continues to inspire, especially young girls, to pursue STEM careers and embrace the richness of science and culture.
