Green Festival

About Mahindra Kabira’s Green Initiative

At the Mahindra Kabira Festival, we are committed to minimising our environmental footprint. As a zero-waste event, we have phased out single-use plastics and switched to reusable and compostable material as much as possible. With our sustainability partner Skrap, we have implemented comprehensive waste management at the festival over the last few editions to divert over 90% of our waste away from landfills.

What new initiatives are we doing this year?

Now, more than ever, our commitment to sustainability needs to be stronger. We have tried to incorporate best practices in our festival venues. Throughout our venues, there are water dispensers along with reusable or compostable food-serving ware. Our eco-friendly decor, crafted from flowers and cloth, adds a touch of natural beauty. To minimise waste, we opt for minimal flex banners that can be reused for future events. Additionally, we ensure that no food goes waste by donating it. And, of course, waste segregation bins are conveniently placed everywhere.

About Skrap

Skrap is a social enterprise that helps businesses implement zero-waste practices and adopt sustainable solutions. Their aim is to minimise the amount of waste that ends up in our local landfills, villages and oceans, and instead transform it into valuable resources by reusing, recycling and composting.

Tree Plantation with Earth Day

On Earth Day 2023, the Mahindra Kabira Festival wholeheartedly pledged to minimise its carbon footprint, culminating in an event where the festival team planted 500 trees in Varanasi on the 16th of July, 2023 – one for each delegate and guest who attended past editions of the festival. With support from the Mahindra Group, Teamwork Arts collaborated with Earth Day Network (EDN), and local group, Gorakhpur Environmental Action Group (GEAG), to organise the planting of fruit and indigenous trees to help increase green cover. These endeavours showcased the festival's unwavering commitment to sustainability and is an inspiring call to action for others to collectively create a greener and more environmentally-conscious future.
