Specializes in weaving new narratives for dastangoi - the ancient art of Urdu storytelling. His writing varies from biographical accounts of personalities like Dara Shikoh and Rahim to modern folk tales on nomadic pastoralism and the internet. He has spoken on dastans at prestigious platforms including Harvard, Yale and Princeton. Ankit has innovated on of 'musical narrative' forms which bring together stories and music. He also works with young audiences and has performed Urdu adaptations of children's classics including Alice and The Little Prince. He is author of award-winning books for children: My Gandhi Story and Amir Khusrau - The Man in Riddles.
At Mahindra Kabira 2017, Ankit will perform “Dastan Dhaai Aakhar Ki” a dastangoi presentation on Kabir as the poet and the lover. The narrative is based on historical research and folklore around the mystic-poet. Interspersed with khadi boli poetry, the dastan takes you on a journey of finding the Kabir within you.
